An influential metropolis both regionally and nationally
Ideally located at the heart of many major transport routes, Tours is attractive and easily accessible from all directions. There is direct motorway access into the city as well as an international airport, and these excellent transport links are soon to be reinforced by the construction of the second part of the LGV (High speed line) between Paris and Bordeaux, placing Tours at the centre of this Atlantic Coast railway network.

An important place in French innovation
The historic MAME site, a former industrial estate, has become the epicentre of French Tech in the Loire Valley and home to emerging new technologies. Building on its past, Tours has now established itself as an important cluster of research and training. The University Hospital and the University, with a total of 30,000 students including 10% from abroad, has largely contributed to this success.

A culture of good living
Tours was traditionally known as the ‘Garden of France’ and it has preserved this heritage with no less than 600 hectares of green space. In 2017, the “Observatoire des Villes Vertes”, the organisation that oversees the development of green spaces in French towns and cities, named Tours as the French city with the greatest amount of greenery. The ‘art de vivre’ in Tours also extends to food and gastronomy with the creation of the “Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie”; the city boasts outstanding architectural heritage as well as a thriving cultural scene for all tastes and ages.

A sporting city
Throughout the year, Tours plays host to and takes part in many international sporting events. Paris-Tours is a major example of this, as well as the Howard Hinton Sevens (rugby 7) and the Nuit des Titans (Thai boxing). These competitions are the pride of the city and contribute to its influence in the sporting field. Tours also shines through the results achieved by its clubs such as the TVB, the European Volley champions. But high-level sport is also present in Tours. The city boasts more than 30,000 members who belong to around 200 associations and clubs representing more than 70 different disciplines.
